What is Cultured Marble?
Cultured Marble part of the cast polymer family. It is a mix of ground up marble powder mixed with resin and fillers. It is a precise mix of polyester resin, catalyst to speed up the casting process, fillers and pigment. Molds are coated with gel coat and the marble mix is placed on the mold. The gelcoat is a tough, non-porous, high gloss surface that is very stain resistant and easy to maintain. When the mix hardens the product is then demolded, trimmed, sanded, polished and inspected.
What are the advantages of Cultured Marble?
The outer layer of a cultured marble product is the gelcoat which makes the product waterproof, durable and resistant to chipping. The gel coat also provides many years of a high gloss finish. Vanity tops can be cast with the bowl molded in so that it is integral part of the vanity top which avoides seems. The custom vanity tops, showers, bath tubs and walls are cast in a mold making the installed product virtually seamless. Proper installation uses mildew resistant silicone which makes the product leak proof.
